ABOUT lizzie
I was born in West Papua to (US)American parents and spent most of my childhood moving internationally, before going to high school in Phoenix, AZ. Womp womp. During that time I was also, bear with me, chronically ill.
No surprise that my main creative themes reckon with dislocation, belonging, body horror and shame. Also no shock that humor is a highly honed coping strategy I employ in all my work no matter how challenging the content.
I seek to normalize frank conversations about bodily struggles and champion the pursuit of healing within the framework that it’s continual and not linear.
I have a BA in Urban Studies from Vassar College and an MFA from California Institute of the Arts. I was a founding member of the c-level art collective in LA’s Chinatown, a hub for experimental media and digital culture.
In addition to my visual art practice, I have written for TV and film; I’m a regular performer at Mortified, and a Grand Slam finalist at THE MOTH. You can listen to my story, When In Berlin, here.
To read my non-fiction work, there’s a lot on my Substack, The Demisery.
